New on DVD & Blu-Ray:

Drive

Drive is a truly stunning film, if you ask me. I wrote back in December that it was my second favorite movie of 2011, although by now it may have taken my top slot. Despite all the well-deserved talk about Ryan Gosling as Driver, this film belongs to director Nicolas Winding Refn, who won best director for this picture at Cannes back in May. As I wrote in my review, “Drive is a rarity in cinema. It’s a no-holds barred, shocking, adrenaline filled ride. The film is brimming with its own unique style of slow, brooding noir with splashes of brutal violence that with each additional scene becomes increasingly unsettling.”
Do yourself a favor and go out and pickup this copy, as you’ll want to revisit this one time and time again.

In Time

I haven’t heard the best of things about In Time, although I do have a screener of the film on my desk which I plan on watching. I’m hoping at the very least for a mildly entertaining sci-fi actioneer and hopefully I’ll be pleasantly surprised. In the meantime, I’d suggest renting this one before committing to a purchase.

To Kill a Mockingbird (50th Anniversary Edition)

I’m a massive fan of To Kill a Mockingbird. I loved the book, and the film version starring Gregory Peck is an all-time classic. I am therefore extremely excited to crack open my copy of the 50th Anniversary Blu-Ray and give it a watch. From what I’ve heard and seen, this edition has been given an excellent treatment and I’m sure between the updated visual and audio quality, as well as heaps of features, this will be a sure buy for any fans of this classic film.
