Prepare to bid farewell to the Pearsons— This Is Us season 6 will officially be the series last.
According to Variety, sources confirmed on Wednesday (May 12), that season 6 of NBC’s hit family drama, This Is Us, will officially be its last.
As sad as the news will be to stomach for long time fans of the series, news of a sixth and final season might not come as too much of a surprise.
The series was initially renewed for three additional season back in 2019 at which point the creative team behind the series revealed that it was very likely that six season would be the cap for This Is Us. With that in mind, it’s more than likely that the story that creator Dan Fogleman and the rest of his team set out to tell when the show first began in 2016 is nearing in on its natural ending point.

“We never set out to make a television series that was going to last 18 seasons, so we have a very direct plan,” said Fogleman of the series back in 201i according to The Hollywood Reporter. “I have script pages I have written and I’m writing that really are deep, deep, deep into the future. We have a plan for what we’re going to do, and I know what the plan is.”
Currently, season 5 of the award winning drama is still airing via NBC. Production on season 6 is set to start off sometime this summer, with new episodes of This Is Us season 6 set to debut sometime during the 2021-2022 television season.
This Is Us airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on NBC.
