American television can have a bad habit of overstaying its welcome, but the This Is Us creators have let fans know they have a clear plan for the show’s story.

Obviously, This Is Us is a huge ratings hit for NBC, and the show isn’t going to be ending any time soon. However, that doesn’t mean that the show’s creator doesn’t have a plan for where to take the poignant family drama.

As Entertainment Weekly reports, at a For Your Consideration Emmy event held on Tuesday, the show’s creator Dan Fogelman was asked about how far out the writers have mapped out the show. Not only did Fogelman say that the writers had mapped out most of the show and were “kind of to the end” of it, but he also let people know that some of the pieces of the final scene in the series have already been filmed.

Fogelman explained, “I don’t think this show will ever — despite any success it may or may not have — will ever overstay its welcome, and we have a story to tell. And we want to do this the right way. And so we have a plan.”

Of course, Fogelman didn’t clue anyone in on how long he pictured the show running. However, with so many shows starting out strong and then losing direction and steam as seasons continue, it’s refreshing to hear about a good show that has a plan and a strong end game.

Still, while we’re happy the This Is Us team wants to tell a solid story from the first episode to the last, we really hope that we’ve got quite a ways to go before we bid farewell to the show.
