1. Jack reveals one of the secrets of his past to Rebecca
We’ve come to know that Jack Pearson is basically the world’s best husband, but we also know that he has some pretty big secrets. While most of these secrets are from his life before he met Rebecca, he’s hidden a few things from her during their marriage, as well.
As Jack struggles to conquer his alcoholism, he’s vowed to not work through it alone, but to involve his family. Obviously, that includes talking to Rebecca honestly. As he’s doing so in This is Us season 2, episode 3, he shares one of his secrets from season 1 with his wife, for the first time.
2. Kevin is challenged in new ways
Kevin always seems to be the sibling who has things the easiest. He was basically a superstar in their younger days, and although he struggled with his career in This is Us season 1, it all turned out pretty amazingly. He even waltzed right back into his ex-wife’s (who he cheated on) life and won her back!
In This is Us season 2, episode 3, Kevin deals with some real problems (in both timelines) that affect him greatly in the episode, and will likely continue to do so in This is Us season 2.
3. The origins of Kate’s dog are revealed
Remember that mysterious dog in Kate’s lap on the night (presumably) that Jack died? He/she returns in This is Us season 2, episode 3!
The circumstances around the appearance of the dog don’t necessarily give us any more clues about Jack’s death, but it does help to rule out some of the options
4. We learn something new about William
When William died in This is Us season 1, we were terrified that we’d never see him again. Luckily, the powers that be know just how beloved a character he became, and they seem to be finding ways to keep him around.
Not only do we get to see William again in This is Us season 2, episode 3, but we also get to discover something new about his time at the Pearson’s. It’s still very important to Randall to remember and honor both Jack and William, so the longer we can keep them both around, the better.
5. Young Kevin and Kate help Randall get through a difficult situation
We’ve seen surprisingly little of the Big Three’s interactions during their teenage years, so far, on This is Us. In season 2, episode 3, we get too see them band together to get Randall through something very difficult.
Even though Randall and Kevin have mended their relationship, it’s still nice to see them being there for each other, since we know they’ve had their rough patches. It’s even rare to see Randall and Kate bonding, so it’s a very nice moment.
