The ending of This is the End had this writer in stiches while watching it the first time. Now, star Jay Baruchel is talking about how they nabbed the [spoiler]!

Those who have seen This is the End know that the film ends with a heaven sequence in which Jay Baruchel’s character is allowed to wish for anything. His wish is for the Backstreet Boys to appear, and they do. Not only do they appear, but they break into a full blown dance routine for their classic hit “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back).”

Speaking to /Film, Baruchel said that the appearance of the song earlier in the film was a touch of nostalgia for the Canadian-born actor. But when they were putting together the heaven finale, they knew the Backstreet Boys’ inclusion was the elephant in the room. “[Co-director] Evan Goldberg said my reaction was how he knew that they were on to something because he said “Jay you are the guy I know who doesn’t like The Beatles, but when I told you we could get the Backstreet Boys, you said ‘Are you fucking serious?!’”

Baruchel was very proud of how the end turned out. “It was such a huge honor to get to work with them and have them there,” he said. “It was just one of these things, people see us with them and it’s just pure happiness. And whatever way you intellectually rationalize it, it’s just a wonderfully fun, happy way to end the movie with incredibly talented singers and dancers alongside our idiot characters.”

“Pure happiness” is the perfect way to describe our reaction. Check out our This is the End review. Thanks, /Film.
