See David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reprise their roles as Mulder and Scully in FOX’s first trailer for The X-Files revival series!

FOX is bringing back The X-Files for what they call an “event series,” David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reuniting on screen for the first time since the 2008 movie I Want to Believe.

Although the show isn’t premiering until early 2016, NBC has released the first trailer, and although it claims to be for their re-airing of The X-Files, it ends with some brand new footage:

Wow! The trailer takes us back to the very beginning, offering teases glimpses of the original series before giving us a first look at the new show.

The X-Files event series is created by original showrunner Chris Carter, and will comprise of six brand-new episodes. Also reprising their original roles are Mitch Pileggi (Skinner), Annabeth Gish (Monica Reyes), Nicholas Lea (Krycek) and William B. Davis (the Cigarette-Smoking Man).

Several new actors are also joining the show, including Community‘s Joel McHale, who will be playing an ally of Mulder’s.

Speaking about the revival series in a recent interview, Chris Carter revealed that the new issues the agents will be facing will very much be a reflection of the time we live in now.

“We’re being spied on now, we’re being lied to — all things that, for me, remind me of when I grew up, which was right around Watergate,” Carter explained. “I think we’re in similar and much more dire times right now.”
