Fox wants to bring you more episodes of The X-Files, if the forces of TV scheduling are kind.
However you felt about the X-Files revival miniseries, Fox is committed to bringing David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson back for another round.
According Fox exec Dana Walden, via The Hollywood Reporter, both stars are “on board to do another installment,” and so is series creator Chris Carter.
The problem now is whether Anderson and Duchovny’s busy schedules will allow them to return to the series. Any potential future X-Files content could be expected no earlier than the 2017-18 season of TV.

Now, this news comes after a lukewarm reception to the hyped-up miniseries revival that aired in January of this year.
The six-episode series saw the return of Dana Scully and Fox Mulder after an eight-year absence. “My Struggle,” which aired January 24, picked up Fox Mulder’s story 14 years after the closing of the X-Files, when Scully contacts him on the behest of Skinner (Mitch Plieggi).
Mulder is no longer a believer, but a new case forces him to reconsider, as he and Scully begin to pick up the pieces of their relationship.
The miniseries ends with the seeming confirmation that aliens are not only real, but here on Earth. The definitive answer to the long-running mystery didn’t necessarily sit well with long-time fans, so it would certainly be interesting to see how Chris Carter would pick up the story from there.
