Last night, The X Factor judges Simon Cowell, Demi Lovato, Kelly Rowland, and Paulina Rubio swept through New York for the third stop on their audition tour. Hypable was there to witness some of this year’s auditions and got the chance to speak to the judging panel about what fans can expect for The X Factor 2013!

With newcomers Kelly Rowland and Paulina Rubio joining returning judges Demi Lovato and Simon Cowell on The X Factor, many of the questions directed at this year’s judging panel revolved around how the dynamics of the group have changed and what these new ladies bring to the table.

Newcomer and Mexican pop sensation Paulina Rubio was quick to pipe in and say that she’s having a lot of fun and that additionally, having fun transpires into the four of them have great chemistry.

Pop singer Demi Lovato likened the experience of being on a panel with three other women to one big party.

“I think we’re doing a fantastic job, and it is fun being on a panel with two other women,” gushed Lovato. “It’s kinda like a bachelorette party when a cute guy [walks] on stage!”

Cowell said he thought “the idea of having three girls [on the panel] would make things more interesting” and mentioned that the decision also came from wanting to spice things up and keep things from going stale on the show.

The A&R exec and T.V. personality also mentioned that what makes the dynamic work is that all three women are very opinionated.

“First of all, I can’t get my own way,” joked Cowell on being outnumbered by women on the panel this year. “[But] I like the fact that we all have a different interpretation of what we’re looking for.”

So what can fans expect to see on The X Factor this season?

From what we saw of yesterday’s live auditions, this season is sure to bring viewers a mixture of talented along with slightly quirky contestants!

During yesterday’s auditions at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, N.Y., one hopeful singer from Harlem sang a rather flirtatious rendition of Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On” and shamelessly dedicated the song to fan favorite judge Simon Cowell.

Another hopeful contestant from Hicksville, N.Y., ditched the singing halfway through an attempt at taking on Aerosmith’s “I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing,” in favor of performing a rather eccentric interpretive dance set to the tune of the iconic 90s ballad.

As to how the judges deal with these quirkier contestants?

Cowell, who allowed the man to dance to the song in its entirety instead of stopping him, told Hypable, “The first thing going through my mind is ‘security!’ but sometimes you just gotta let it pan out and see what happens.”

Lovato, however, who chose to leave with Rowland and Rubio in tow after things got a bit too weird with the Hicksville hopeful, thinks that there are times when “letting it pan out” isn’t necessarily for the best.

“As judges, we’re able to sit in front of people and have a great time– and when they’re bad, still have a great time! [But] then there are times where you’re just so scared that it’s not fun anymore and you just gotta leave, so that’s what happened!” said Lovato.

As for new judges Kelly Rowland and Paulina Rubio? Fans of the show will be happy to hear that both ladies seem to be fitting right in with Cowell and Lovato.

Rowland, who sat next to Cowell through much of the auditions on Thursday night was playful with both her fellow judges and the rather vocal audience members who turned out to watch the auditions live.

But more importantly, neither Rowland or Rubio shied away from giving concrete criticism to hopeful contestants who didn’t quite have what it takes to make it through to round two.

During one memorable moment, Rubio asked a contestant whether or not she had ever had vocal training. When the contestant said she currently had a vocal coach, Rubio quickly cut in and said, “Then fire him and get someone better!”

Though Fox has yet to announce an official air date for the show, fans of The X Factor can expect the singing competition to return to television sometime this Fall.
