Several beautiful excerpts have been unveiled from George R.R. Martin’s forthcoming compendium, The World of Ice and Fire.

Though The World of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin is not set to be released until this Fall, several excerpts from the hefty coffee table-esque book have recently appeared online.

Four of the richly-illuminated pages were revealed as a preview on Edelweiss. These pages include stunning artwork, the extensive Table of Contents, and snippets from sections on the Dawn Age and the lands beyond the Wall. Perhaps most enticing for fans of Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series, the final page also reveals an extensive family tree of the central (and somewhat ill-fated) House Stark.

Fans whose allegiance may lie with other Great Houses need not worry – The World of Ice and Fire will also include family trees from House Lannister and House Targaryen.

Another excerpt was also released today on Westeros.org; Elio Garia Jr and Linda Antonsson, founders of that website, are also co-authors of The World of Ice and Fire. Their excerpt, “The Ten Thousand Ships,” begins the story of Princess Nymeria of the Rhoynar and is accompanied by an image of Nymeria herself.

News has been picking up for the forthcoming nerd-bible. Another excerpt from The World of Ice and Fire was released last month by Martin himself, and the final cover art was revealed last week.

The official summary for The World of Ice and Fire calls the tome “the comprehensive guide to all things Game of Thrones and beyond. The overwhelmingly in-depth book “will tell series readers old and new all they might want to know about the history and culture of Westeros and the lands beyond the Narrow Sea.”

“We were supposed to provide 50,000 words of text,” Martin himself commented in a blog post about the compendium. “But… ah… I got carried away.”

The World of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin will be released on October 28.
