After a week long countdown on Square Enix’s mysterious ‘Coming Soon’ site, the countdown reached zero and thus The World Ends With You: Solo Remix was announced for iOS. This news follows a backlash from fans, with a mix of anger and sheer disappointment.

Solo Remix is a port of the DS version of The World Ends With You, and is now available in the iTunes Store worldwide, with a version for iPhone ($18) and a version for iPad ($20). The title itself includes a whole bunch of ‘new’ – from enhanced graphics for the retina display to a one-screen combat system.

Overall, this news comes as a massive disappointment to The World Ends With You fanbase. Many believed this was the sequel they had been waiting for – only to be met with a half spirited remake (of sorts). Others blame Square Enix for building up the hype with a countdown site for a simple iOS game. The remaining few have hope that a sequel is on the way, as Nomura (the creator) has stated a sequel is not out of the question.

What do you think of this news? Are you amongst the majority of the community and despise this title, or are you happy to see a new version of The World Ends With You regardless?
