The World Ends With You, underground Nintendo DS favorite, will make its way onto the Nintendo Switch with some notable improvements.

The World Ends With You: Final Remix releases on October 12 for the Switch. The game will have enhanced visuals, along with “new content and enhanced gameplay.”

The touchscreen-heavy JRPG The World Ends With You launched for the DS in 2007, and was helmed by the team behind the Kingdom Hearts series (as if the Sora and Kairi character look-a-likes in Neku and Shiki weren’t already a dead giveaway of that).

The World Ends With You is a bit Hunger Games-y, a bit Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors, in that protagonist Neku wakes up in a strange city with a countdown of seven on his hand. He and other Final Fantasy-inspired characters must team up with their partners to complete missions before time runs out.

This re-release of The World Ends With You will also feature some remixed music tracks, which is good news for anyone who was a fan of the bumping synth beats of the original. Players will be able to play in co-op mode to complete The Reaper’s Game, and will also have the options of using either the Joy-Cons or Switch’s touchscreen.

If you haven’t picked up the original The World Ends With You for the DS, I’d highly recommend adding this re-release/remake onto your radar. If anything, it might just help pass the time a little quicker while waiting for the release of Kingdom Hearts 3 at the beginning of next year.
