The Wolverine is barreling into theaters at an accelerated pace and in the latest extended clip from the movie, all hell breaks loose in the last place anyone would expect.

Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine can’t catch a break. On top of struggling with immortality and dodging his troubled past, now he has to worry about being ambushed under extremely inconvenient circumstances.

The new extended clip has Wolverine and Yukio (Rila Fukushima) heading into a funeral when things take a sudden violent turn.

The clip comes on the heels of the release of another extended scene in which we find our adamantium-clawed hero battling assailants inside and on top of a moving bullet train.

This is Jackman’s fifth turn as Wolverine, outside of cameos in other Marvel films, and his second stand alone film.

From the looks of the trailers and clips we’ve seen so far, it seems that director James Mangold is taking a rougher, grittier turn with the character. Granted, Wolverine is about as rough and gritty as they come.

Unlike the previous films, The Wolverine is based mostly on Chris Claremont and Frank Miller’s 1982 series, which saw the X-Men hero travelling through Japan.

In this film, we will meet gargantuan villain Silver Samurai (Will Yun Lee) as well as Viper (Svetlana Khodchenkova). Jean Grey (Famke Jensen) is also set to show up in the action packed follow-up to the X-men films.

Jackman will also make an appearance in Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, the sequel to 2011’s X-Men: First Class, although Mangold told us that the films are not chronologically connected to one another.

The Wolverine claws its way into theaters on July 26.
