Moviegoers anticipating The Wolf of Wall Street will simply have a wonderful Christmastime, officially.

The Wolf of Wall Street was originally set to be released November 15, but due to director Martin Scorsese not being able to finish editing the film in time, it was thought that the Oscar contender may get pushed into 2014.

Fear not, movie lovers. Deadline reports that The Wolf of Wall Street will officially be released Christmas Day, December 25. The film will take the place of Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit which will move to January 17.

The Hollywood Reporter adds that the decision to release the film this year was made late Monday when the shortened version of the film was shown to Paramount chairman Brad Grey, star Leonardo DiCaprio, and other top Paramount executives. Scorsese had been busy at work editing the film. The Wolf of Wall Street was originally over three hours in length. The current running time is 2 hours and 45 minutes.

Paramount chairman Brad Grey had this to say:

Marty’s work is fantastic. He’s continued to work on it but now it’s officially going to be ready for Christmas Day and I’m delighted.

The Wolf of Wall Street stars DiCaprio as Jordan Belfort, a former Wall Street broker. The film is based on Belfort’s memoir, a New York Times best seller.

Scorsese has assembled an impressive cast to back up his now often used lead man. Matthew McConaughey, Jonah Hill, Jean Dujardin, Rob Reiner, Kyle Chandler, Margot Robbie, Jon Bernthal, Cristin Milioti, P.J. Byrne, and Ethan Suplee also star in the film.

The fact that the film will make its 2013 release date will have a big impact on the Oscar race. The Wolf of Wall Street should compete in multiple categories this year, best picture and best adapted screenplay being the two most likely choices for voters.
