The Wolf of Wall Street is already quite long, but a four hour cut of the Oscar nominated film will be released on DVD and Blu-ray.

Update: Paramount & Red Granite have told Collider that only the theatrical version of The Wolf of Wall Street will be released, making the four hour version unavailable.

Producers of the film revealed prior to its release that The Wolf of Wall Street was originally four hours long and that its final 179 minute runtime was achieved to meet the distribution demands of the studio.

As if the movie wasn’t long and raunchy enough, the crew behind the movie with a record-breaking 503 fucks says there will be even more. Collider reveals the theater cut was achieved by simply cutting scenes down and not necessarily cutting them out.

What that means is there shouldn’t be too many new scenes in the extended edition, just longer sex scenes and more f-bombs. While a lot of it was cut to make its three hour mark, we imagine there was quite a bit cut to keep the film from becoming rated NC-17 instead of its final R rating.

When speaking with the Daily Mail, the film’s producer Joey McFarland explains the extended edition by saying, “We are going to have some good surprises… the movie is not much different in its longer form, it’s just longer version of scenes.”

We’re uncertain if longer will necessarily mean better, for a film which had some audience members already checking their watches at the theater, it’s unlikely an extra hour will be helpful.

Despite its length, The Wolf of Wall Street was an excellent film, which has gone on to be nominated for five Oscars, including Best Picture. We look forward to seeing if DiCaprio picks up his first Oscar, as he’s been nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role.

We’ll be sure to let fans know when The Wolf of Wall Street will be available on DVD/Blu-ray.
