Netflix’s The Witcher has found its newest cast member in actor Basil Eidenbenz.

According to Variety, Swiss actor Basil Eidenbenz has officially joined the cast of The Witcher season 2.

Eidenbenz is coming on board to play the role of Eskel in the fantasy series’ highly anticipated second season, which stars Henry Cavill in the leading role.

Fans of The Witcher might recall that earlier this year we learned that actor Thue Ersted Rasmussen would be assuming the role of Eskel in season 2.

Eskel is a long time friend of Geralt’s (Henry Cavill), who also happens to be a Witcher himself.

Though it was originally reported back in February that Rasmussen had signed on to take on the role of Eskel in the second season, the actor has since had to drop out as a result of some scheduling conflicts brought on by the current coronavirus pandemic.

Like a vast majority of projects that were set to film this year, Netflix’s The Witcher was forced to pause filming back in March amidst growing coronavirus pandemic concerns. Though originally, the series had only planned to pause production for two weeks, the fantasy series only just started filming again last month on August 17.

“Sadly, due to the rescheduling because of COVID-19, I will not be portraying Eskel in The Witcher. It’s heartbreaking, of course, but I mostly feel happy and grateful for the days I got to spend on set earlier this year,” wrote Rasmussen in a lengthly Instagram post.

“I wish everyone on the show the best of luck with the rest of production. I’m sure season 2 will be absolutely amazing and now I get to watch it as a fanboy instead of as a Witcher.”

The Witcher season 2 is expected to debut via Netflix sometime in 2021.
