There are a million and one reasons to tune in to The Whispers every week, but one you may not have expected is the strongest: the kids are phenomenal.

We could list all of the numerous reasons that you should be watching The Whispers every week, but rather than just throw them all at you at once, we think it’s way more important to give each of these their due.

Reason number one why you should be watching The Whispers: the kid actors do a phenomenal job. They have some of the most complicated work to do, and yet, you believe that they have befriended this invisible presence, Drill, and that they need to finish and win the ‘game’ he’s playing with them. We’ve met a handful of random children throughout the first three episodes, but the main three are the most impressive week in and week out.

Here are the three main child players and at least one example of why they impress us so much.

Harper Weil

Harper Weil is played by the immensely talented Abby Ryder Fortson, whose expressive eyes and convincing demeanor have made her one of the show’s most valuable assets. From that very first shot of her facing the trees and meeting Drill, it was clear that this little girl would play an important role in whatever story The Whispers would be trying to tell. As you can see in the clip above, she doesn’t need anything more in a scene than a chance to talk to her good buddy Drill to give you a good chill straight down your spine.

Henry Bennigan

In perhaps one of the most unused, but pivotal roles yet, Henry Bennigan is played most brilliantly by Kyle Harrison Breitkopf. His character is the son of two of the main players, and as Drill has become a part of his life, we have seen him change in a crazy way. One of the points of contention between his parents, Claire and Sean Bennigan, is his loss of hearing, but now that Drill has entered his life, his hearing has been restored. In the clip above, we see Henry being awed by the ability to hear again, and thanks to Drill’s gift, Henry seems willing to play along for now. What does Drill have in store for Henry? Only time, and more episodes of The Whispers will tell.

Minx Lawrence

The last of the major kid players is Minx Lawrence, played by the impressive Kylie Rogers. Her place in Drill’s plot has already begun, but with a father as influential as Wes Lawrence, she will undoubtedly be a key player in Drill’s scheming from here on out. Now that Wes Lawrence is aware of his daughter’s connection to Drill, it will be interesting to see if they are able to convince her to ignore Drill’s dictates, or if maybe Drill will force her hand by threatening someone she loves. As you can see in the clip above, Minx knows just how powerful Drill is, and might not be as willing to defy him and risk his wrath.

These are just three of the many incredible players on The Whispers. The children are the biggest and most incredible surprises, but the adult characters are no slouches. With talents like Lily Rabe, Milo Ventimiglia, and Barry Sloane heading the crew, it’s hard to expect anything but greatness.

Make sure to tune in this Monday at 10pm to see what Drill has in store for the nuclear power plant on The Whispers season 1, episode 4, “Meltdown.”
