The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman has announced the title of this summer’s spinoff series.

The new show is titled Fear The Walking Dead. It’s, obviously, very similar in title to the series it’s based on.

Why this title? Allow us to speculate.

Fear The Walking Dead aligns with the show’s plot, which begins before the zombie outbreak, according to Robert Kirkman. The characters in the spinoff series will have reason to fear these creatures who are beginning to walk among them. Fear their existence. Fear the uncertainty.

Also, the title is probably purposely similar to the original series to ensure it’s a big hit. If they went with another name, they would’ve risked losing the association with the original show. With well over 10 million viewers watching The Walking Dead every week, AMC wants to ensure another huge hit.

The news comes just two days before The Walking Dead season 5 finale. With the title now out in the wild, we expect a teaser for Fear The Walking Dead will air this Sunday during The Walking Dead season 5, episode 16 or the episode of The Talking Dead that follows.

AMC has already ordered two seasons of Fear The Walking Dead, with season 1 running for six episodes and premiering in “late summer.” The series stars Cliff Curtis, Kim Dickens, Frank Dilate, and Alycia Debnam Carey.
