Some new details about AMC’s The Walking Dead spinoff premiering in 2015 have come to life as the show is developed behind-the-scenes.

TV Line has learned that show runners for The Walking Dead spinoff are currently kicking around the idea of it being a prequel to the current zombie drama. In this version of the spinoff we will get to see the early days of the apocalypse as the humans try to contain the initial outbreak.

Whether the show is a prequel or not, we know for sure that it will be set outside of Dead’s current home of Georgia . “It’s important to us that this show exists on its own,” said series creator Robert Kirkman in a recent interview with IGN. “The spinoff has to be a show worthy of existing, or else we’ve all sold out.”

We like the idea of the show being a prequel because there will be high stakes on the line as we watch the humans try to stop the outbreak from happening. The only issue is that we know the outcome of their efforts: They fail. On the other hand, it’ll be cool to see what these new characters’ lives are like before the outbreak and then how they slowly deteriorate as they work together to stop the apocalypse from spreading.

One thing we’ve never seen in The Walking Dead? Flashbacks. This prequel could open up the doors for flashback storytelling which would make the show feel different from the current Dead. A good example of how flashbacks could be handled can be seen on Netflix’s Orange is the New Black.

Do you like the idea of a prequel for the ‘Dead’ spinoff?

Thanks, TV Line.
