The Walking Dead season 8 was…something alright. Surely many fans are wondering what this new season will have in store for them after everything that happened last season. Well, we’ve seen the season 9 premiere and have gathered a few spoiler-free teasers to give fans an idea of what they can expect ahead of Sunday’s premiere.

Everything is safe, except it’s not
When The Walking Dead season 9 premieres, the communities have had some time to settle since the war ended between them. They’ve been able to set up systems and learn how to work together, making everything seem like it’s a better world. But that’s just on the surface, and as the episode shows they still have a lot to face.
Love is in the air
To make up for some of the heavier scenes in the episode, The Walking Dead is sure to let fans know that shipping is alive and well on the series. There are lots of tender moments between Rick and Michonne who continue to be a solid team inside and outside of their home together.
Carol and Ezekiel are fully embracing their romance together, though Carol is still being careful to keep her independence. There’s also a pretty cute moment between Carol and Daryl for everyone (like me) that still wants to see those two together.
Nature is taking over
It seems like time without civilization has allowed nature to take over. Much of the infrastructure that the communities rely on is starting to crumble, which becomes a big issue for the groups. Scavenging is also becoming less reliable, with the communities having to go farther and farther out for supplies.
Learning from the past
With what’s left of modern civilization fading away, the communities begin to turn more to the past. Not only do they rely on artifacts to help them begin to rebuild the world, but they also look at how the nation organized itself when it was turning the colonies into the U.S.

AMC has also released the first five minutes of the premiere for fans to watch ahead of the episode! The opening features some cute domestic moments between Rick and Michonne, trouble over at the Sanctuary, and a look at the group heading out on a mission.
