The Walking Dead continues to beef up its cast for season 6, and the latest addition played by Xander Berkeley sounds interesting.

TV Line reports The Walking Dead season 6 has cast Xander Berkeley in a mysterious new role. The article indicates the new character is not Negan, but he possesses Negan-like traits.

At this time it doesn’t sound like he’s a character viewers may remember from the comics (unless, of course, he’s the TV show’s version of Negan).

“I hear his character — whose name is being kept under wraps — does share some of the same characteristics as Negan,” says TV Line. “Namely his narcissism, huge ego and self-preservation. He’s also said to relish the superiority that comes with being in control, but he plays it off with a car salesman-type charm.”

So he’s Walking Dead’s Saul Goodman?

Many have expected Negan’s appearance to be imminent since Rick and company are now living in Alexandria. This community is where Rick first comes across the villain in the comics. Negan likes to wreak havoc in communities for fun.

Feeling like we’re losing hope for a Negan appearance? Comic readers know Alexandria is the community Rick and friends spend the longest amount of time living in, so we shouldn’t grow too worried if he doesn’t show up this year. Assuming they remain in Alexandria for a while, there’s always season 7!

Speaking of season 7, TV Line says Berkeley’s deal with the show has an option for next season too. In other words, they have long-term plans for this character.

In case you’re wondering why a new actor is joining the show just a few weeks before season 6 premieres: Xander Berkeley won’t be appearing on the apocalypse drama until the second half airs in the spring.

You may recognize Berkeley from roles in Terminator 2: Judgement Day, Taken, and Air Force One.

The Walking Dead returns October 11 on AMC. Fear the Walking Dead is currently airing Sunday nights and reached its half-way point last weekend.

Do you think Xander’s character is a play on Negan?
