After Glen Mazzara stepped down from The Walking Dead in December, the show was left with no one to run things. Now it looks like The Walking Dead will have someone else in the show’s top spot starting in season 4.

According to Variety, writer Scott Gimple will be the new showrunner for The Walking Dead. Gimple will begin his new position when season 4 begins filming. Apparently, AMC did not wish to comment on the news, but it looks like the writer will indeed be stepping in as showrunner.

When The Walking Dead began its first season a couple of years ago, Frank Darabont began as showrunner, but after he stepped down in 2011, Mazarra took over.

The Walking Dead has had a tumultuous relationship with its showrunners since the start.

Variety notes, “Mazzara served as showrunner for the series’ second and third seasons. He came aboard after Darabont stepped down because he felt the network wasn’t putting enough resources into the show.”

Mazzara left because of reported creative differences with creator Robert Kirkman.

When the news broke, Mazarra took to his official Twitter to comment on the news. “I’ve had an amazing experience as showrunner for season three but it’s time to move on. Thank you to all the fans for their support. The Walking Dead fans are absolutely amazing. I cannot thank you enough for your support. Thank you to an immensely talented cast and crew.”
