The Walking Dead appears poised to introduce the show’s first male gay character in the second half of season 5.

The hit zombie drama has cast Ross Marquand as a series regular in The Walking Dead season 5B, and according to TV Line, the character he’ll be playing is Aaron.

Aaron is a character found in The Walking Dead comic series. He is a gay person living in the Alexandria Safe Zone, a place that hasn’t been explored on the television series yet.

TV Line’s sources aside, Robert Kirkman confirmed in August that a gay person would be introduced in the fifth season of The Walking Dead, so it makes sense that news of his casting would surface now.

It makes sense for the Alexandra Safe Zone to be introduced in the second half of season 5 now that Rick and company are on the road again with no particular destination since Eugene has come clean about his knowledge of a cure in Washington D.C.

Aaron has a boyfriend in the comics named Eric, but that role hasn’t been cast (yet).

At this time we don’t know when Aaron or the Alexandria Safe Zone will be introduced in The Walking Dead season 5B, but with only eight episodes left, it may not take too long for him to appear.

All we know about the second half of season 5 is that, A) our group of humans will be out on the road, and B) Rick’s beard is longer than ever.

This isn’t the first time the show has introduced a homosexual. Tara is a lesbian, as we learned during season 4.

The show returns on February 8.
