AMC’s The Walking Dead has been named the deadliest show on TV in the fall 2012 season, with record ratings for 3×09 “The Suicide King.”

One thing The Walking Dead isn’t short of is zombies, and zombie kills. Fans love a good walker mash-up, and sometimes a couple of human deaths thrown in to keep things lively.

According to Funeralwise.com‘s second annual TV Body Count study which examined the death toll for 40 TV series, The Walking Dead, topped the list with an average of 38 deaths per episode. And of the average of 38 deaths per episode, 91 per cent were zombie kills.

Well in a world filled with walkers, what can you expect?

Another element of the study went on to show that guns were the most common weapon contributing to on screen deaths, with gunshot victims accounting for 44 per cent of all fatalities. Moreover men represented 86 per cent of all deaths.

However, when looking at the differences between the primary cause of death in humans and non-humans (including our biting buddies) human’s were most commonly killed by gunshot, but non-humans often met their end by knife, blade, arrow or a variety of other means.

Why do you think that might be? Do we distance ourselves from human deaths by using less up-close-and-personal methods? Or is it that in the zombie apocalypse you kill with whatever is to hand? What’s the best way to destroy the undead?

What’s more, The Walking Dead‘s midseason premiere earned it’s largest audience to date, boasting 12.3million viewers; and this total grew to 16.6 million viewers for the night including encore viewings. What’s even better for AMC is its hit show was seen around 7.7 million viewers aged between 18-49, the age group advertisers most want to reach.
