Tonight’s The Walking Dead picked up where we left off two weeks ago, with Rick arriving back at Alexandria with walkers on his tail.

Daryl, Sasha, Abraham, and Glenn will make it back home! …At least, that’s what Rick is hoping for when he returns to the safe zone in The Walking Dead 6×05 and gives the residents a quick pep talk.

Poor Rick finally made it back home at the top of Sunday’s new Dead following the mayhem the Wolves caused, and the first thing he had to do was try to make everyone feel better about the disastrous things that have occurred. There’s no way around it: Things are much, much worse than they were before he put his big walker re-route plan into action during the season 6 premiere. It’s a tough spot for him to be in because he really wanted to prove that the re-route idea would fix a major lingering threat.

It may be easy to forget, especially after last week’s extended Morgan episode, but Alexandria has gone through hell over the past few weeks. Deanna appears to be the most shaken by everything that’s gone on, and her guilt increases when her son Spencer drunkenly blames her for the most recent deaths.

This rough encounter with her son seems to sway her in a big way. While sitting at her desk later, Deanna takes a map of Alexandria and writes “dolor hic tibi proderit olim,” a quote from the Roman poet Ovid that translates to “someday this pain will be useful to you.”

She channels that pain into a big decision. Deanna knows she can’t run Alexandria with all the threats that lurk outside the safe zone’s walls, so after unsuccessfully fighting a lone walker in Alexandria, she tells Rick that he needs to be their new leader.

Welcome to the Ricktatorship.

Even if Rick has somewhat officially received permission to take over, this new role doesn’t seem to be going to his head. He knows there are currently some major problems going on that he’s at least partially responsible for. If he and the others had been at Alexandria when the wolves came knocking, many more people could’ve been alive right now.

Maggie is pregnant

Maggie doesn’t believe Rick’s optimistic comments about Glenn and the others, so she decides to go looking for her husband. Aaron notices her planning to escape, and because he’s feeling somewhat guilty for the recent deaths, he decides to help her search. Interestingly, Aaron introduces Maggie to a secret underground tunnel running out of Alexandria, but the passageway is not without danger. The pair run into a couple of walkers in the sewers, and they take a hot second to kill them.

This attack shakes Maggie, who tearfully confirms that she’s pregnant (with Glenn’s baby, of course). Ouch, poor Maggie may be raising a child on her own. Or this’ll make Glenn’s return that much sweeter. ;)

Love is in the air

Tonight’s episode had plenty of romance. The surprise pregnancy aside, we saw Tara and Doctor Denise share a lengthy kiss as the latter continues to work on her healthcare skills. Later, Rick and Jessie shared a kiss after she asked Rick if there’s anything left to look forward to.

Earlier in the episode Rick bonded a bit with Jessie’s son Ron when he asked for weapon training in exchange for keeping Carl from going after Enid. Is this another sign that Jessie and Rick will bring their families together? If so, we doubt Carl will be thrilled.

An ominous road ahead

The episode ended with blood leaking through one of Alexandria’s walls. Is the safe zone’s architecture crumbling? Is it a bullet hole? Or are walkers now able to claw through metal fences? Whatever’s happening, Alexandria better take care of the problem quickly.

The trailer for next week’s episode also reminds us that there are only three episodes left in 2015. Who wants to place money now on Glenn making his grand return in the mid-season finale on November 29?
