The Walking Dead season 6, episode 2 looked a little slow — until the wolves showed up.

“Is this going to be a sleeper of an episode after the excitement of last week?” This is what we all wondered for the first 15 minutes. It wouldn’t have been unlike The Walking Dead to slow things down after such an eventful premiere.

Once the wolves showed up, we all started wondering, “Will season 6 continue to be so brutal? If so, my heart won’t be able to handle it for much longer.” (At least that’s what I was thinking.)

Offering a play-by-play seems fruitless here since so much happened during the attack on Alexandria. In a nutshell: The Wolves managed to kill a lot of people in horrible ways (without guns), and Alexandria’s residents managed to kill a lot of people (with guns, scissors, and other weaponry). The wolves were absolutely brutal, attacking innocent people and chopping them up for fun. It was insane to watch, honestly, and we almost didn’t enjoy it. These poor people! And for no good reason!

“JSS” made Deanna aware that she should’ve trained everyone at Alexandria on how to use a weapon. Many people, including Carol’s housewife friends, were completely incapable of defending themselves. We have to think we’re going to be seeing some sweeping training lessons within the next couple of weeks.

Speaking of Carol, she once again showed that she is one of the best characters on The Walking Dead. Always resourceful, she decided to go undercover as a wolf herself to get to the armory before the wolves did. We guess her “I’m a clueless grandma” cover up is totally over now. The juxtaposition of Grandma Carol and Wolf Carol in “JSS” was amazing — the two appearances were on completely opposite ends of the skill set spectrum.

There was a big disagreement between Carol and Morgan — the two people managing Alexandria’s defense. The latter character was adamant about not killing anyone despite the God awful things they were doing to Alexandria. Seriously, Morgan, what gives? Only when he fought a particularly tough wolf at the end of the episode did he decide to deliver a fatal blow — but he apologized to his victim first.

Interestingly, Morgan seemed to have interacted with these guys some time in the past few years while he was off screen. One of the wolves recognized him, but Morgan warned them they’re bound to lose since Alexandria had weapons. “We didn’t choose” this life, one of the Wolves told Morgan. Hmm…

The attack, by the way, seemed to wear on Carol. We haven’t seen her show this kind of genuine emotion in a while. As she sat on her porch after the attack, she began to tear up — and noticed a red “A” on her stoop. What is this, Pretty Little Liars?

Enid

Enid is a badass. It’s always nice to get a peek into characters we don’t know much about, and Enid’s story opened up in tonight’s episode. The cold open depicted the young girl’s back story and how she lost her parents: They were attacked by walkers while they tried to start a car. She was out on her own — orphaned — before arriving at Alexandria, and she would write “JSS” everywhere she went. What makes her a badass? Besides surviving on her own before finding Alexandria, she ate a turtle raw (then turned the creature’s bones into “JSS” lettering).

Enid decided to leave the safe zone at the end of the hour. Why? As we learned earlier in the episode, she thinks Alexandria is doomed. Before leaving, Enid left Carl a note which read, “Just Survive Somehow.”

Elsewhere

– Denise, a doctor-in-training at Alexandria, tried to save an attacked resident after being encouraged by Eugene to help her. Unfortunately, she’s unable to save her. We wonder if this incident will deter her from working on her skills or encourage her to learn more.

– The episode was completely void of Rick, Michonne, Daryl, Abraham, Sasha, and most of the others who were out executing the walker re-route plan in the season 6 premiere. Next week we’ll be seeing them taking on those walkers who fell off the path, according to a preview:

Do you think Morgan is a changed man after tonight?

Or will it take a few more wolf attacks before he realizes he needs to change his way of thinking?
