With The Walking Dead’s midseason premiere just a couple of short days away, we review all five promotional videos and question what might be in store.

We’ve seen these promos before, but as The Walking Dead‘s comeback draws closer, we wanted to refresh our memories as to what’s coming up in round two of season three; as well as point out some perhaps less obvious snippets and question what might be in store for our protagonists.

Promo #1: Released December 2, 2012

The first of the five promos from AMC for the midseason return of The Walking Dead draws a lot of questions as to what could be in store for episode nine and onwards.

Woodbury looks as though it’s in disarray considering the attack by Rick and co. This is the last thing the Governor wants as the small town is meant to symbolise life before the zombie apocalypse. If Woodbury breaks into anarchy and riots, how will the Governor regain and maintain control?

Glenn seems to be seeking an ally in Michonne against the Governor imploring her “you and I could end this tonight.” What does he mean by this? Steven Yeun has already indicated in an interview with Channel Guide Magazine that Glenn may not be willing to let the desire for revenge against the Governor go. What could he and Michonne have in mind for getting their own back on the man who inflicted such pain on them both?

Also, the Governor indicates that he is unsure of whose side Andrea is going to be on. He says “I’m not sure where her loyalities lie.” Could this mean Andrea could be looking at a particularly bumpy ride in the second part of season three? She’s already had it pretty tough so far!

What’s most intriguing however, is that Carl suggests that Rick, his father, should stop being the leader. What could this mean for the group if Rick takes his son’s advice?

Promo #2: Released Jan 2, 2013

Whilst the audio content is pretty much the same as Promo #1, there is several instances of new footage; including Daryl holding quite a sizeable knife, Carol and another person being shot at, a woman with a baby being attacked by zombies whist stuck in car and different shots of Rick, Carl and Michonne throughout.

Does freedom from Woodbury appear to be in Daryl’s sights? Having been shown she’s been shot at, is Carol going to die? Norman Reedus suggested that Daryl and Carol have had sexual tension in the past in an interview with MSN, and has indicated he would like it to go further, so we’re hoping they both last long enough to at least dabble in the idea of romance, even if it’s not meant to be.

One final thought regarding the second promo however: is that baby Judith in the car with the unknown woman, or is there another newborn in the post-apocolypic world? If it is Judith, who is she with and will she survive the third season? And if not, who else has been pregnant and managed to give birth and survive this far in a walker filled world?

Promo #3: Released Jan 14, 2013

Primarily, we are promised a “fight… to the death” by the Governor between Merle and Daryl Dixon in the screamer pits. However, information since then has indicated that Daryl’s fate isn’t to die in the screamer pits, and neither is Merle’s. Whilst we can’t be sure if it is Andrea’s intervention, Rick rescuing him, or if Daryl is just so freaking badass he does it all by himself; we’re glad it seems he’s out of the woods as it were.

What’s more, Glenn appears to be keen to get one up on the Governor and Woodbury, suggesting a surprise attack when they’ll be least “expecting it.” We also get hints of Tyreese’s crew joining our survivors at the prison, when he says “anything to contribute.” Finger’s crossed Rick is right when he says “we’re gonna win.”

Promo #4: Released 22 Jan, 2013

“There is no army. There’s no government, no hospitals, no police, it’s all gone.”

Set to the eerily beautiful sound of Jamie N. Commons’ “Lead Me Home,” this promo gives another spin on the second half of the season. Hinting at a more hopeless and helpless situation for “Team Rick,” the video focusses more on Rick’s capability as a leader, and the storm which is brewing at the Woodbury camp.

What’s more is neither side of the fence appear to be willing to let up at any point, the Governor threatening that “this fight will go down to the last man” and Rick promising that if the Governor wants a war “he’s got one.” It certainly implies that things aren’t going to be easy for Rick and the prison group.

Promo #5: Released Jan 24, 2013

In the final promo released by AMC for The Walking Dead 3×09, once again we’re treated to some new clips and scenes for the upcoming episode.

In the first two seconds of the promo, Rick warns “we started something last night.” As the hatred and aggression builds between Rick and the Governor, can we expecting an eye for an eye?

What’s more, we finally have conclusive evidence that Daryl at least makes it out of the screamer pits alive, although we don’t know under what circumstances. He manages to caution Rick, “the Governor is on his way.”

However, the promo concludes with what appears to be a rational and even fairly calm conversation between Rick “so here we are”, and the Governor, “we have a lot to talk about.”

Having seen all the promos against one another and looked at them in more depth, what do you think could be about to go down in this showdown?

One thing’s for sure, The Walking Dead‘s midseason premiere is going to awesome. Tune in at 9/8 ET/PT this Sunday, Feb 10 on AMC.
