This week saw season 6’s most dramatic elimination yet, as three talented contestants were sent home, in spite of their coaches’ pleas.

This week’s results show had much higher stakes than the past, as three contestants were sent home, instead of the usual two. Any of the coaches can be eliminated at any time at this point in the competition, and all are desperate to make it to the semi-finals. The coaches fought and pleaded with America to save their contestants, but we were still left with a very talented bottom four.

This had to be a pretty nerve-wracking week for both Usher and Shakira, because they each had only one contestant remaining on their teams, and were on the verge of being eliminated from the competition. Fortunately for them, Josh and Kristen, Usher’s and Shakira’s last contestants, respectively, were the first two safe contestants revealed. Both coaches were visibly thrilled, with Shakira letting out a shocked, “My Kristen?! My Kristen?!”

Group Performances

Audra, Jake, Kat, and Kristen teamed up to kick off the night with a performance of The Band Perry’s “Chainsaw.” Unlike some group numbers, where everyone seems to be competing for attention and stage time, these four blended perfectly together, and sounded like they could start their own country rock band once The Voice is over. They all seemed to really enjoy the song as well, and really got into the performance.

Christina, Delvin, Josh, and Sisaundra took the stage for another solid group performance. This group took on Disclosure’s “Latch,” which was a great song to suit all of their voices. Once again, all four singers really seemed to enjoy this performance, and had a lot of fun onstage. Even the awkward choreography didn’t look to bad, though the dramatic lighting at the beginning made it look like they were basically performing in a cloud of dust.

‘The Voice’ Confessional

This week’s Voice Confessional was a very sweet mother’s day tribute. All the contestants and coaches talked about how much they love their moms, how much their moms have supported them over the years, all their mothers have taught them, and how they are saints to having to put up with them (or maybe that last one was just Adam). The video ended with a sweet moment between host Carson Daly and his mom, where, after he said how much she meant to him, the camera panned to his mom off to the side, too teary to speak.

Sing For Your Life

Sisaundra Lewis

Sisaundra Lewis chose Aretha Franklin’s classic “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” for her last chance performance, and really, what can you even say about something like this? Sisaundra’s voice is incredible, of course she did Aretha justice, and then some. All the coaches were shocked to see her in the bottom this week, and Blake begged America to save her, saying, “you know you wanna hear this girl sing again next week.”

Audra McLaughlin

Audra McLaughlin took on her second The Band Perry song of the night, performing “Done” for her last chance performance. Her voice was on point, as always, though she spent much of the performance pacing back and forth across the stage to either side of the audience. Blake activated his country music phone tree to get all the country fans in America to vote for Audra and her classic country voice.

Kat Perkins

After a hugely successful last chance performance saved her last week, Kat Perkins returned to her classic rock roots, singing Heart’s “Barracuda.” She completely tore up the stage, obviously so comfortable in her element. Kat is the most natural performer of the bunch, and the pipes to match. Her coach Adam said Kat and season 3’s Terry McDermott are the two best rock singers The Voice has seen, and she represents rock ‘n roll as the greatest music in world.

Delvin Choice

Delvin Choice closed out the last chance performances with his own take on Bruno Mars’ “Young Girls.” It was a good performance, because Delvin’s voice is amazing, but the song choice kind of fell flat next to the girls’ strong choices. After the performance, Adam did take the opportunity to remind America that no one in this galaxy, or beyond, has a voice like Delvin’s.

The Results

After four great performances, Carson turned the power over to America, who had five minutes to vote for their favorite bottom four contestant using the twitter hashtag “#VoiceSave.” After another landslide Twitter vote, Kat Perkins was once again the winner of the Voice Save, meaning the end of the road for Sisaundra Lewis, Audra McLaughlin, and Delvin Choice.

The Voice top 5 will perform next Monday at 8 p.m. on NBC, with the season 6 finalists revealed live on Tuesday at 8 p.m.
