It was a much cooler night at The Voice last night, in part because two contestants went home, with no chance of a coach’s save, but also because the studio’s air conditioning was finally working, unlike Monday night.

Carson Daly, having apparently studied at the Ryan Seacrest School of Annoyingly Long Dramatic Pauses, announced the saved contestants two by two throughout the show. Team Adam was the first team to be saved in its entirety, followed by Team Blake, when Holly Tucker was saved from the bottom 4. With only Vedo, Garrett Gardner, and Sasha Allen remaining, Carson announced that Team Shakira’s Sasha was safe, meaning her teammate Garrett, and Team Usher’s Vedo, would be going home.

The show started off with a recap of the top 12’s performances, even though they just showed an entire recap episode of the top 12’s performances the hour before, and odds are the people tuning in for the results show watched the performance episode the night before. But I guess The Voice wants to make absolutely sure the viewers know for sure what they voted for.

Blake joined his team onstage at “Blake’s Place” (the fictional country bar the stage was set up as) to perform Brooks and Dunn’s “Play Something Country.” It was a great performance, and the team sounded great together. Blake is so darn tall, he just towers over his team members and looks like a dad taking his kids to soccer practice. If only Blake’s Place was real, I bet karaoke night would be amazing.

Team Adam surrounded their coach, sitting on some carpeted benches while Adam played a beat-up old electric guitar. The group sang The Cure’s “Lovesong,” though it was more of a showcase for Adam than it was for the girls. Amber, Sarah, and Judith were more backup singers for Adam, but they still all sounded good, and the song was a great choice for them. It was sweet the way Adam grinned when they were singing; he’s obviously so proud of his girls.

The girls of Team Adam also joined their battle round mentor, Hillary Scott, and her band Lady Antebellum onstage to perform “Goodbye Town,” off of their album Golden. It was a great performance, and a great opportunity for the contestants, because Lady A were a lot more accomodating than other guest performers have been. Each girl had a pretty decent solo, and they sang along for the chorus, all the while Hillary, Charles, and Dave actually seemed pleased to have them on stage as part of the performance.

Robin Thicke, alongside special guests Pharrell Williams and T.I., seemed like he wasn’t even aware contestants Vedo and Kris Thomas were onstage with him. His performance of new song “Blurred Lines,” was a little chaotic anyway, with Pharrell jumping in every now and again to shout something, T.I. walking onstage halfway through, and other random dancers or backup singers or possibly strangers just wandering around in the background. Regardless of that, Kris and Vedo seemed absolutely thrilled to be a part of it.

They also showed a “Confessional” segment, in which we learned a little bit more about the personalities of all of the contestants. In this case, we learned about their first jobs, and their quirks: Danielle takes lots of selfies, Garrett taught archery at a Ren Faire, Josiah loves The Mighty Ducks, Judith used to sing to kids about farting, and Zach Swon can turn his face into the Scream mask, which is something you will never be able to un-see.

The top 10 will perform next Monday at 8/7c on NBC.
