This is always the toughest elimination of the season, and tonight on The Voice we lost eight talented contestants. On the plus side, we also got a performance from Wiz Khalifa and season 7 finalist Chris Jamison.

‘See You Again’

In case you haven’t cried over Paul Walker’s death recently, allow the sweet melodic tones of season 7 finalist Chris Jamison to bring tears to your eyes, performing “See You Again” with Wiz Khalifa. It’s a heartfelt song to begin with, but it’s even sadder when you consider it’s from the Furious 7 movie, and the real-life tragedy the franchise suffered, losing one of its beloved stars. It was a beautiful performance, and Chris’s voice has somehow gotten even better over the last year.

Team Performances

Team Blake

Team Blake knows a place, and they’ll take you there. Brooke, Corey, Hannah, Meghan, and Sarah took the stage to perform The Staples Singers’ “I’ll Take You There.” All the girls were sassy battling divas, in the very best way, and Corey just snuck in as this adorable, honey-voiced dreamboat. The group set-up worked out very well for him, especially since he’s the only guy on the team. It was a fun performance from the whole team.

Team Christina

Team Christina took on the Madonna classic “Like a Prayer,” and they could have just sat on the stage in the dark and it would have been great, because that song is the best. But they didn’t. They kicked off the performance with some great five-part harmony, which they revisited throughout the performance. It was interesting to see India, Kimberly, Lexi, Rob, and Sonic perform all together, because while all five have been strong contenders from the beginning, you could definitely tell which stars shone the brightest in this performance.

Team Pharrell

Team Pharrell serenaded us with a really weirdly-blocked performance of A Great Big World’s (featuring Christina!) “Say Something.” Again, it’s a great song, but it was not really the best choice for this performance. It was a little slow, and some of the vocalists got a little bit lost. Regardless, they earned a standing ovation from Christina, so it must have been good enough.

Team Adam

Team Adam just might take the cake for the best group performance tonight. Their performance of Rihanna’s “Diamonds” shone bright, in spite of the fact that they were all wearing black, and blending in with the black set. They sounded beautiful together, with the only weak spot being that Joshua Davis’ sweet indie voice got a little lost in such a big production. Deanna in particular stood out, obviously having gained some confidence after last night’s show-closer.

Results

Team Blake

Team Blake was the first team on the chopping block tonight. When America’s results were revealed, Corey Kent White and Meghan Linsey were voted through to the top 12. Coach Blake was left to choose between Hannah Kirby, Brooke Adee, and Sarah Potenza to move on in the competition. He chose Hannah, who he’s had a bit of a soft spot for from the very beginning.

Team Christina

When it came time for Team Christina to learn the results of America’s votes, we Carson revealed that America had saved Kimberly Nichole and India Carney. Not very surprising choices, as they both had incredible performances last night. Christina was left to choose between Sonic, Rob Taylor, and Lexi Davila to move on to the top 12. She chose Rob, which based on this week’s performances, was the right choice.

Team Pharrell

Pharrell had a pretty loaded team, so America really couldn’t go wrong with their votes. Sawyer Fredericks and Mia Z earned the most votes, leaving Pharrell to choose between Caitlin Caporale, Koryn Hawthorne, and Lowell Oakley. Poor, sweet, Pharrell hated to let any of his team members down, and he really struggled to reveal the contestant he would be saving. But he went with his gut, and his gut told him to save Koryn.

Team Adam

Team Adam was the last to learn their fates this week. America loves a sensitive guy with a guitar and an underdog story, so they voted Joshua Davis and Deanna Johnson through to the top 12. This left Adam to choose between Brian Johnson, Nathan Hermida, and Tonya Boyd-Cannon. Tonya seemed like the obvious choice, since she has been Adam’s favorite from the beginning, so Adam’s decision to save new Team Adam contestant Brian surprised everyone, especially Brian!

Tune in next week to see the top 12’s live performances, beginning Monday at 8pm on NBC.
