After The Voice results were read, America got its first chance to save a contestant using the #VoiceSave.

Team Gwen

Team Gwen took us to the islands for the start of the results show. Performing Blondie’s “The Tide is High,” it was a fun, laid back performance that perfectly suited the team. Gwen sang for most of the song, but who doesn’t love a good Gwen Stefani performance? When her team members; Anita Antoinette, Ryan Sill, and Taylor John Williams, joined her, they fell right into step and seemed perfectly comfortable onstage alongside their superstar coach. And something about Gwen and Taylor performing was just adorable.

Team Blake

Much of this performance was spent trying to figure out what Jessie Pitts was wearing. Fortunately, whatever it was she was wearing shorts under it, so she didn’t flash all of America. Aside from that, Team Blake performed Elton John’s “Sad Songs Say So Much.” It’s always a hoot to hear Blake take on songs that aren’t country. But of course, he sounds great singing everything. These four vocalists create an interesting dynamic, because Jessie and Reagan are both delicate, breath-y singers, while Craig and Blake are both very strong, powerful vocalists. Makes harmonies tough, as the girls sort of get lost.

Ella Henderson

Who knew who Ella Henderson was before this performance? But how many of you knew the song? Anyway, U.K. singer/songwriter Ella Henderson stopped by The Voice to perform her hit song “Ghost.” It was a great performance, and certainly a great model for the contestants. Plus, she looks a little bit like Jennifer Lawrence, which can only help her career.

The Results

After America’s votes were revealed, we learned Team Adam made it through to The Voice top 10 in its entirety, and our bottom three contestants were Team Blake’s Jessie Pitts, Team Pharrell’s Sugar Joans, and Team Gwen’s Ryan Sill. Each contestant now had the chance to sing one more time in an attempt to win over America’s votes with the Instant Save.

Jessie chose Sara Bareilles’ “Gravity” for her last-chance performance, and it was really the perfect choice for her breathy, emotional vocal. Sugar chose Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)” which is a big risk to take. She’s certainly got the vocals for it, but once again she seemed to push it just a little too much. Ryan was the last to perform, choosing Extreme’s “More Than Words,” making the most of his appeal with the ladies.

Instant Save

America had five minutes to vote to save their favorite endangered contestant. When the show went to commercial after the polls were opened, the results were shown as they came in, on the bottom of the screen. Ryan was well in the lead for the entire time, and even after the coaches’ pleas, that stuck. Ryan will be moving on to the top 10, and Jessie Pitts and Sugar Joans are going home.

The top 10 performs next Monday at 8 p.m. on NBC, with the results airing on Tuesday.
