Following in the footsteps of their friends at Saturday Night Live, Monday night’s season finale of The Voice opened with a beautiful performance of “Hallelujah” by the show’s judges as well as many contestants.

The song was performed to honor the victims of the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut this past Friday.

Several contestants who have been voted out of the competition were on stage to sing alongside judges Cee Lo Green, Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, and Blake Shelton. Each person signing was holding the name and age of one of the victims. Even host Carson Daly, who doesn’t sing, happily contributed to the choir.

We’ll have a recap of tonight’s performances on The Voice later on.

Twenty-six people, twenty of whom were between the ages of six and seven, were killed by a gunman at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut on Friday, December 14.

We applaud The Voice on a beautiful and fitting opening to honor those who were lost. It was nice to see the entire show’s cast united in song.
