The Voice host Carson Daly teased some changes for the upcoming third season of NBC’s singing competition – including a possible new twist to the battle rounds.

“We’re tweaking the battle rounds a little bit for season 3,” Daly told TVLine. “The best way to categorize the changes is that we’re playing with some potential interchangeability.”

Could “interchangeability” mean that this year’s contestants could switch teams?

Another change will come as less contestants and more performances in the live rounds.

“We had too many people in the live rounds, and it was hard to keep track of them, and it was hard to fall in love because there were so many,” Daly said.

“When we get to the live shows, we want America to be a little more invested in fewer singers,” he added.

The Emmy-nominated singing competition returns to NBC in the fall.
