The votes were revealed and four contestants were sent home on The Voice last night as former coach Cee Lo and legend Rod Stewart took the stage for some performances of their own.

Host Carson Daly kicked off the show with the CEO of Telescope, the voting firm that tabulates the voting results for the show. Apparently, there were some issues with the text voting this week, and because of that, none of the text or online votes counted towards the totals this week, and they have taken care of the problem for future voting. Apparently, discarding these votes did not affect the results.

The Performances

Team Blake and Team Shakira kicked off the night’s performances with a group performance of The Script’s “Hall of Fame.” It’s tough to put on group performances with that many people and give them all solos, so the performance was a bit jumbled. But everyone sounded good, and they had great energy. They all seemed to have a great time on stage, even the more reserved performers.

Team Adam and Team Usher took the stage next to perform Swedish House Mafia’s “Don’t You Worry Child.” Judging by their entrances, Usher schooled his team members in dramatic posing. The contestants once again had a great energy, though the staging was weird. Josiah and Vedo spent some time turning around on a spinning platform for reasons unknown.

Rod Stewart took the stage to perform his new single “Finest Woman” off of his new album Time. It was everything you could ask for in a Rod Stewart performance: that famous gravelly voice, and his hair looking like he stuck his finger in an electrical socket. He was accompanied by Team Shakira’s Garrett Gardner and Karina Iglesias, and Team Usher’s Josiah Hawley, for a brief version of his classic song “Forever Young,” and the contestants were obviously thrilled to be singing alongside such a legend.

Cee Lo was joined by season 2 Team Cee Lo member Juliet Simms to sing his new single “Only You.” It was great to hear Juliet’s distinctive voice on The Voice once again. She was wearing a cape, which is pretty much protocol for a Cee Lo performance. Cee Lo himself looked pretty tame compared to his past performance ensembles. With nary a feather nor mirror in sight, his sparkly shoes were the flashiest part of his otherwise all-black ensemble.

The Results

Team Blake

Team Blake was the first to receive its results. America’s votes saved the girls: Holly Tucker and Danielle Bradbery. Blake did not expect to have to choose between The Swon Brothers and Justin Rivers, and after much hemming and hawing and congratulating them all for making it this far, Blake chose to save The Swon Brothers, “for the sake of keeping things interesting.” Justin took his elimination well, thanking Blake for working with him, and as Justin left the stage, Blake promised to call him.

Team Shakira

Team Shakira was next up on the chopping block. America saved Sasha Allen and Kris Thomas, leaving coach Shakira to choose between rocker Garrett Gardner and powerhouse Karina Iglesias. After a great performance from Karina this week, and a less-than-memorable one from Garrett, the decision seemed clear. But after admitting that she lost sleep the night before and tried pulling a name out of a hat, Shakira chose to save Garrett, saying that she felt she could do more to make him better.

Team Usher

The next team to receive its results was Team Usher. America’s votes saved Michelle Chamuel and Vedo, leaving Usher to choose between super-handsome crooner Josiah and Latin diva Cathia. Usher didn’t look thrilled about having to make this decision, and while saying that regardless of his decision an incredible thing has happened, and a career has started for both of them, he chose to save Josiah.

Team Adam

Adam Levine was the final coach to hear the results and make a decision to save only one of his remaining contestants. America saved Judith Hill and Amber Carrington, leaving Adam to choose between two of his favorite unique vocalists: Caroline Glaser and Sarah Simmons. Notoriously wordy Adam tried to talk himself through the decision up until the very last moment, as host Carson Daly prompted him that they would be off the air in less than a minute. After more flustered word vomit from Adam and prodding from Carson, Adam finally decided to save Sarah.

Stay tuned next Monday at 8/7c on NBC to see the top 12 contestants perform.
