Usher and Shakira may be new coaches on The Voice but they’re ready to “bust heads” and crack the whip.

Just weeks since crowning Cassadee Pope as the third winner of NBC’s The Voice, the judges previewed the show’s upcoming season at a press conference attended by Billboard Wednesday.

Taking over for Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green, who will take a break from the singing competition during its fourth cycle premiering March 25, Usher and Shakira are upping the competitive nature of the show.

“Cee Lo was always so laid back,” Blake Shelton explained. “He’s kind of been the quiet killer in this thing. We replace Cee Lo with somebody that’s just that more aggressive and now you’ve got four that are killers up here.”

“Now you have a pregnant, hormonal Colombian,” Levine added of Shakira. “She’s ready to bust some heads. She ain’t messing around!”

Sounds like Shaki will be quite entertaining during the Blind Auditions, especially since Levine described her as a combination of “comic relief, super f-cking serious, and gangster.”

While we look forward to the banter between the four judges throughout the season, it’ll be interesting to see how Usher and Shakira’s mentoring styles differ from that of Cee Lo and Christina.

Shakira focuses on details while Usher takes a strict approach.

“My style is more military than anything because I’m all about the preparation,” Usher said. “My style is to make them understand the seriousness of the craft and that they have the very best opportunity to be the greatest – or the worst – depending on how you take it.”

We’ll have to wait and see how those styles work out for the new judges, though Usher seems to have mastered the art of mentoring with a singer you may have heard of – Justin Bieber.

“As much as I hate to say this about another coach in the beginning, Usher has done what this show has yet to do – launch a superstar and that’s our goal,” Adam said. “That’s something we want to do as an institution.”

NBC released a hilarious promo last month featuring Usher, Shakira, Adam and Blake belting Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart” after struggling to agree on a radio station to listen to while in Blake’s truck.
