After much speculation, it looks like all four coaches, past and present, will be returning to join fellow coaches Adam Levine and Blake Shelton, just not all in one season.

There has been a lot of talk, especially since it was announced that Christina Aguilera will be returning for season 5 of The Voice, of who would be joining her in those iconic red spinning chairs. Adam and Blake aren’t going anywhere, but fans have come to love the addition of Shakira and Usher, and they’ve helped boost the show’s ratings this year.

Well, as it turns out, they will all be coming back, just not in the same season. EW reports that season 5 will return to the original group of coaches: Adam, Cee Lo, Christina, and Blake, and then Shakira and Usher will switch out with Christina and Cee Lo for season 6, which will air in Spring 2014. Carson Daly will return as host for both seasons.

Fans who had grown to love this season’s addition of Shakira and Usher were rallying for the two to return permanently, even though it has been previously reported that NBC had left the doors open for Christina and Cee Lo to return. This way, everyone gets a turn, and no matter how you feel about the different coaches, you can be sure they’ll change season by season, but to another familiar face. This also frees up the artists themselves to focus on their music and other projects.

Aguilera took season 4 off so that she could promote her most recent album, Lotus, and go on tour. Cee Lo has been busy as well, headlining his own show, Cee Lo Green is Loberace, in Las Vegas. It has been previously reported that Cee Lo will be starring in his own reality show, The Cee Lo Life, on TBS. Perhaps we’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at The Voice filming?

The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c on NBC.
