The Voice coaches will be joined by guest mentor Chris Martin to prepare the contestants for the next round of battles, before the live play-offs.
This week, in the first ever round two of battles, two contestants from the same team will be paired to sing a duet to determine which of the two will advance to the live play-offs. Their coach will pick a winner at the end of the battle, but the loser still has a chance to be stolen onto another coach’s team.
After round one of the battles ended last week, the teams were as follows:
Team Adam: Christina Grimmie, Dawn & Hawkes, Delvin Choice, Josh Kaufman, Kat Perkins, Sam Behymer, Jake Barker, Brittnee Camelle.
Team Shakira: Clarissa Serna, Dani Moz, Ddendyl, Deja Hall, Emily B., Kristen Merlin, Patrick Thomson, Josh Murley.
Team Usher: Bria Kelly, Madilyn Paige, Melissa Jimenez, Morgan Wallen, Stevie Jo, T.J. Wilkens, Music Box, Cierra Mickens.
Team Blake: Audra McLaughlin, Jake Worthington, Kaleigh Glanton, Megan Ruger, Ryan Whyte Maloney, Sisaundra Lewis, Biff Gore, Tess Boyer.
The big change this week will be that Coldplay’s Chris Martin will be joining the coaches to mentor the contestants through this second round of battles. He will be the only mentor this round, so it looks like it’s sayonara to Miranda Lambert, Jill Scott, The Band Perry, and Aloe Blacc.
In a few sneak peek videos, we get a look at the kind of advice and personality Chris Martin brings to the table.
In one rehearsal, with Team Blake’s Audra McLaughlin and Megan Ruger, he advises the girls to find their very own “Moves Like Jagger,” and make use of their stage the way renowned performer Mick Jagger does.
Martin recommends another pairing, Team Shakira’s Josh Murley and Patrick Thomson, use mic stands as props to make them both loosen up and become more comfortable onstage.
