The Veronica Mars Movie adds Jerry O’Connell to the cast as the Warner Bros. film heads down to San Diego Comic-Con.

Executive producer Rob Thomas announced to Kickstarter backers that O’Connell would be joining the cast of The Veronica Mars Movie as Sherriff Dan Lamb. His character is Sherriff Don Lamb’s (Michael Muhney) brother. O’Connell caught Thomas’ eye in his outrageous performance in Piranha with fellow Veronica Mars cast member Adam Scott. “So… when it came time to cast the amoral older brother of Don Lamb as the new sheriff of Balboa County, I lit up when Jerry’s name was raised.”

Thomas teased at the casting announcement yesterday when he posted a photo of Sherriff Lamb’s trailer on set for Kickstarter backers. Thomas revealed that the announcement would not be the last casting update and that he would confirm a rumor and appearance that many Veronica Mars fans were curious about. “I’ll send one more update tomorrow confirming a casting question we’ve gotten a lot.” Who do you think the announcement refers to? Do you think Harry Hamlin, Amanda Seyfried, or Teddy Dunn is joining The Veronica Mars Movie? Who do you want to see in the film?

O’Connell joins former Burning Love cast members Ken Marino, Ryan Hansen, Adam Scott, Martin Starr, and Kristen Bell in The Veronica Mars Movie. All but Starr appeared in the original Veronica Mars series. He can next be seen in the CBS show We Are Men with Kal Penn and Tony Shaloub. He did not appear in the original Veronica Mars television series on UPN and CW.
