The Vampire Diaries, season 7, episode 14, “Moonlight on the Bayou,” will be the show’s first crossover with its spinoff series The Originals. Stefan will travel to New Orleans, and there are endless possibilities!
With the characters of The Vampire Diaries and The Originals crossing paths again, it is not out of the question that the residents of Mystic Falls could get sucked into some of the drama currently going on in New Orleans. Klaus and Elijah’s greatest opponent is currently the Strix. What would happen if Stefan and his friends had to face this enemy too?
For those who are unfamiliar with the current problems in the world of The Originals, the Strix is a society of vampires started by Elijah Mikaelson many centuries ago. His goal was to create a group of vampires with great minds who could improve the world. It is now a large group of extremely powerful vampires (think the Volturi in Twilight with less authority) with their own coven of “outcast” witches doing its bidding: the Sisters.
You definitely don’t want to get on the bad side of the Strix because they’re some of the oldest vampires around and on The Vampire Diaries, age equals power. The fact that they’ve got their own personal magic squad doesn’t hurt either. Unfortunately for Klaus and Elijah, they aren’t on the best terms with the society right now so it could be bad news for them.
That being said, the Strix may not actually be an enemy to the Mystic Falls crew at all. In fact they may actually be the opposite! The Volturi are eager to recruit Edward and Alice Cullen for their unique supernatural abilities. It makes perfect sense that the Strix would want Stefan and Elena for their doppelgänger voodoo and even Bonnie… Bennett for all the witchy goodness attached to her last name.
Whether or not they would want to be a part of the society would be the question. With Bonnie having lost all her family it may be an attractive option for her to join a coven. It would definitely prevent all those pesky bloody noses if she had more magical hands to draw power from. In the flash forwards, Bonnie is looking like quite the outcast. Someone telling her they want her in their “family” could be just the thing she’s looking for.
Stefan would likely face a dilemma if Damon and Caroline weren’t also picked for the team. Although we as viewers know that you really can’t get more special than Caroline Forbes, mythologically speaking she’s pretty plain. For that reason, the Strix may not want to bother with her since they fancy themselves a pretty elite society. Damon may not be desirable to them for obvious reasons and it’s doubtful he would want to be part of the society since he’s got his own non-conformist vibe.
Since Stefan has proven his loyalty to his real life brother again and again, he probably wouldn’t go ditching him and the other people he loves for another “family.” It might have been different if the Strix had approached him during the time between 1864 and now. He was alone and desperate for companionship and could have loved the idea of being a part of this society with such a noble goal (even if their practices don’t always match up with it).
Obviously Elena is a little preoccupied with her busy napping schedule at the moment, so her allegiance will remain to her coffin. However,if the option were presented to her in the future, her decision would probably be to remain with her Mystic Falls family, especially Damon.
It’s possible that anyone refusing to join the elite society would be put on their aforementioned bad side. In that case, they would definitely have their work cut out for them and may even have to enlist the help of their old friend Klaus and his family (hello future crossovers!).
Whether or not any of Salvatore and co. joined the Strix, it would make for an interesting story for potential future seasons of The Vampire Diaries. The Strix has very original initiation rituals and it would be amazing to see Stefan, Bonnie, Elena and even Caroline and Damon try to pass the mental tests.
No matter what happens on The Vampire Diaries, season 7, episode 14 as they crossover with The Originals, it will be great to get a glimpse at some of the relationships we’ve been missing in the show. Bring on witty remarks between Stefan and Klaus and maybe an interaction with a certain blonde beauty…
