The last episode of The Vampire Diaries had many shocking developments, one of which was Tyler leaving town. Here, Joseph Morgan teases what this means for Klaus.

While everyone is talking about Jeremy’s shocking death at the end of “Down the Rabbit Hole,” the episode saw another important departure: Tyler left Mystic Falls behind (again) to escape Klaus, who refused to grant Caroline’s request to let her boyfriend live.

TV Guide has caught up with Morgan, who explains how this decision will affect Klaus and Caroline’s relationship.

Although Caroline is understandably devastated, Morgan believes that no matter what Klaus does, “There’s always got to be a hint of hope [for them], hasn’t there?”

He adds that, “I would like to think that she is understanding enough [because] this is the thing: No one is truly good or evil. There’s always some redeeming quality somewhere, maybe buried very, very deep within someone.”

He also previews that the pair do have more scenes coming up together in future episodes. “The characters are still interacting,” he says. “Their relationship, and I’ll use that term loosely, becomes much more complex the more we go on, which is so interesting to play.”

Morgan also talks briefly about what Katherine’s return (and the fact that she’s got her hands on the cure) means for Klaus, saying, “There are going to be interesting developments with that. She’s going to want to do everything she can to avoid him. Whether that’s trying to kill him or make peace with him or trying to broker a deal with him, that remains to be seen, but absolutely not something that’s brushed over.”

Are you looking forward to seeing more interaction between Klaus and Caroline now that Tyler is gone? Or has the Original vampire crossed the line?

The Vampire Diaries 4×15 “Stand By Me” airs next Thursday at 8/7c on on The CW.
