It’s good (and bad?) news for fans of The Vampire Diaries: Claire Holt’s Rebekah Mikaelson will be joining her brothers Klaus and Elijah on The Originals!

Since The Originals was first announced, the fandom has been buzzing with speculation as to which Original vampires would actually be appearing on the spinoff.

Klaus (Joseph Morgan) will receive lead billing in the drama, and it was recently revealed that Elijah (Daniel Gillies) would join the series as well.

And now, The Hollywood Reporter can confirm that the final Original left standing, Rebekah (Claire Holt), will also be making the jump to the New Orleans-based show – if it’s picked up by The CW, that is.

The April 25 episode of The Vampire Diaries will serve as a backdoor pilot to the spinoff: Klaus, Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin), Elijah, Rebekah, and a host of new characters will be shipped off to New Orleans, where Klaus will be faced with his former protege Marcel (Charles Michael Davis), who has taken over as leader of the supernatural community.

If the pilot is successful, The CW will hopefully decide to option The Originals for the 2013 fall season, in which case The Vampire Diaries exec Julie Plec will serve as showrunner.

And if it’s not picked up, we of course hope that The Vampire Diaries will still have room for Klaus, Rebekah and Elijah – but that remains to be seen.

Are you happy that The Originals will bring across the trio of Original vampires as regular characters? Or would you have preferred for Rebekah to remain on The Vampire Diaries?
