Nothing is certain on The Vampire Diaries, except apparently one thing: whether or not Kol (Nathaniel Buzolic) will be brought back to life.

Following last week’s episode “A View to Kill,” in which Kol was unceremoniously offed, the fandom was left wondering whether that was really the end of the character.

Seeing as the mysterious Silas is said to be able to raise the dead, it seemed very likely that Kol might be among those he raised, especially considering that he was one of only four Originals who could migrate to the new spinoff series The Originals (Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Elijah (Daniel Gillies) have already been confirmed as regulars if the series is picked up).

The hosts of Hypable’s Vampire Hype podcast speculated as much, too – because surely the writers would have a lot left to do with this character, the only Original whose backstory still remains a mystery to us?

Alas, it’s bad news this time. Zap2It has allegedly been informed that the character will not be seen again in present day, although of course the actor could still return in flashbacks.

Further, they write that you can expect more deaths this year on The Vampire Diaries, echoing Kat Graham (Bonnie)’s ominous statements about the fates of certain characters.

But hey – at least it seems that Lexi (Arielle Kebbel) will make another flashback appearance this season!

Are you disappointed that they won’t be bringing Kol back to life? Share your thoughts in the comments!
