Last week’s episode stirred up a whole new bunch of trouble in and out of Mystic Falls. Tonight’s episode of The Vampire Diaries season 7 is just the beginning of the Salvatores’ dealings with the aftermath.

If you don’t remember much from last week’s episode, there’s pretty much one incident to keep in mind. Lily staked herself to rid the world of Julian’s terror, but found out too late that they were no longer linked. That one act has and will continue to wreak havoc inside and outside of Mystic Falls.

In addition to the Julian problem, Nora and Mary Louise are at odds, and Caroline is still pregnant with Alaric’s babies and growing more so by the day. Tonight’s episode will play a little with all these characters while dipping into the Christmas spirit a bit as well.

If we recall the happenings of previous Christmas-themed episodes, things don’t usually go so well. Maybe not as badly as school dances, but I seem to recall the season 4 episode in which Klaus drowned Carol Lockwood in a fountain to the dulcet tones of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” Precious memories.
