Tonight’s episode of The Vampire Diaries season 7 started with quite the shocking revelation. Check out who’s engaged to who three years from now, and see if you can wrap your head around it.

Tonight’s episode was chock full of revelations, the least of which was a certain engagement. Check out each of the items below and make sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments!

Wait, who’s engaged?

The episode began as every episode in The Vampire Diaries season 7 has, three years in the future. However, we learned quite the revealing bit of information this time. We all know that Damon paid Alaric a visit at his home, as we saw last episode. Their discussion included mention of Alaric’s fiance. When we see Caroline pop up on the TV screen live from her news studio with a ‘message for Stefan,’ we hear Damon refer to her as his fiance. That’s right, ladies and gentlemen, Alaric Saltzman is engaged to marry Caroline Forbes. Our minds are blown. Of course, this raises some crazy questions, including: Are those their kids that were running around a couple episodes ago?

Damon and Stefan disagree about Julian (which surprises no one).

Damon wants to let Lily and Julian have their peace and let them believe they have found happiness for a couple of months, then rip it out of their hands by killing Julian. He wants Lily to suffer like she is making him suffer without Elena.

Stefan wants to kill Julian immediately to protect Valerie and to rid himself of Julian’s truly awful brand of evil. He knows about Julian’s actions toward Valerie and their baby, and is ready to take him out.

It’s not new that these two disagree about things, but there’s no one clearly in the right here. Both try hard to get what they want, but ultimately, they leave Julian’s ‘Welcome back to the land of the living’ party after Julian loses his cool and tries to kill them for disrespecting their mother.

Before the episode is up, Stefan reveals his motivations to Damon, and they have a heart to heart about what fatherhood would mean to both of them. The bond they’ve always shared pulls them together again as Damon vows to help Stefan with his quest to kill Julian.

Not-Jo gets a name!

The woman formerly known as Jo remembers her name moments before she dies. Due to the body inhabiting the vampiric soul from the Phoenix Stone being human, it is slowly deteriorating. Not-Jo will die soon. As she lies on her deathbed, she remembers her name was Florence, and she died at the hands of a sword through the heart. Alaric and her have a touching goodbye during which he thanks her for allowing him to hear Jo’s voice again. Tears were most definitely shed.

Bonnie helps Enzo out

While at Lily’s party, Bonnie selflessly helps Enzo make Lily jealous. Since they are definitely not besties of any sort, it was incredibly sweet of her to help Enzo out like that. Nothing much else comes of it, but it could be a start to the relationship that has them making out three years from now as we saw at the beginning of an episode a couple weeks ago.

Storing humans?

Bonnie and Matt follow their waiter buddy to the high school where they see him walk down the hall toting an IV bag on wheels behind him. They try to talk to him, but he’s compelled. He enters a classroom full of people in a similar state, and Bonnie and Matt follow. We have no clue what Lily and company have planned for these humans, but it can’t be good.

Ric’s twins may be alive!

Valerie takes some of Alaric’s blood and uses it to do a version of a locator spell for his babies. The map was supposed to burst into flames when they were located. We watch as the blood runs off the edge of the map onto the floor. Caroline goes to mop up the blood and the paper she uses bursts into flames. Valerie tells them the good news: Caroline’s carrying Alaric’s twins. So, yeah, that happened. It seems we have our answer about whose kids were running around Future-Alaric’s house.
