The Vampire Diaries season 6 has taken its sweet time getting Bonnie Bennett back over to the present day, and we’ve grown to love her so much we’re hoping that she has a huge role in season 7.

Bonnie and Damon being gone/dead/somewhere was the biggest cliffhanger of the season last year, and at Comic-Con fans were screaming for both the Salvatore and the Bennett witch. However, this season it seems Plec and company chose to bring Damon back for a complicated love story and keep Bonnie in 1994 to move forward with Kai’s plot. Despite the Kai plot being so close to being done, they’re keeping Bonnie in 1994 and if that’s the way it’s going to be, then so be it – but she better have a huge part in season 7 next year.

Throughout the last 6 seasons of The Vampire Diaries Bonnie Bennett has gone from being the normal best friend, the witch, the problem solver, and the sideline character. This season it looks like she won’t go past the sideline character mark, although we have high hopes she’ll kick some ass in the finale. But we expect that since so many fans have been vocal about their Bennett love our favorite witch will be a huge part of the next season. There’d be no reason to not make her a bigger part of the show – unless they kill her, but they’ve already done that so we hope they do something more original.

The Vampire Diaries executives can do a plethora of things to bring Bonnie Bennett to the front lines, and we expect almost all of them:

Give her a love interest.

Time to break some bad news: Jeremy is leaving. Not just to art school, but Stephen McQueen, who plays Jeremy, is all grown up and will no longer be a series regular. This means that Bonnie Bennett won’t have her boyfriend next season, and so we hope she will play the field a little bit.

We don’t expect her to instantly find her soulmate, but could you imagine the epicness that would happen if two guys showed interest in Bonnie and she didn’t know who to choose? Yeah, it’d be another sort-of love triangle, but if it means more Bonnie Bennett screen time then we’re down! We’d love to see her, Elena and Caroline talk about who’s better and who’s probably going to literally kill them. Give the Stelena/Delena plot a break, give Bonnie some love!

Give her a purpose.

We’d like to see Bonnie do way more than just help Elena, Stefan and Damon. Given that we’ve seen and heard of other Bennett witches, we think that’d be an interesting path to go down: explore the Bennett line some more! Let her explore her past, and maybe bring some family drama into Mystic Falls so that we can get something other than just Doppleganger drama. There’s so much that Bonnie doesn’t know about her ancestry still, and we’d like to see her exploration of that ancestry be a huge part of her character growth and involvement next season.

And that idea leads us to our last point. If the writers seriously can’t bring Bonnie to the front lines, or refuse to, then give her to a new team:

Bring her to The Originals.

The Originals, unlike The Vampire Diaries, focuses on family. And since it’s been made clear that Elena, Caroline, Stefan and Damon can operate just fine without Bonnie we should move her somewhere she matters: New Orleans! We’re positive the writers can give the Bennett family line strong footholds in the Mikaelson’s favorite city, meaning that Bonnie’s search for connections can easily lead her there.

Witches are a huge part of The Originals, and the Bennett line has been such a huge part of the vampire/werewolf legend that it makes sense she’d find herself there. We’d miss her connection with Damon but we imagine even better connections forming between her and Elijah, or Hayley – and especially Davina!
