The Vampire Diaries season 6 is bringing with it true conflict for Matt Donovan and we couldn’t be happier to hear it!

Matt Donovan hasn’t had as much to do with the major plots of The Vampire Diaries for the last 2 seasons as we would like, but it seems that major changes are on the horizon for that in season 6. According to Julie Plec in an interview with Zap2it, “For Matt, I think it’s more about, ‘How important is this town to me? How important is this idea of the town being a safe haven for humans to me? And what happens if or when the magic comes back and the supernaturals are allowed back in? Even though they’re my friends, what will they bring with them?’ Down the road, he’ll have a little bit of a conflict internally in how to deal with that.”

She went on to talk a little about the new character, Tripp, that will be stirring up some human trouble next season. When asked whether they intend him to be a villain or not, she had this to say: “”Tripp’s status as a villain or not a villain is not conclusive at this time. Tripp’s history is a bit of a mystery but whether he’s a villain or not is not something that is clear.”

We can’t wait to see the human faction have a little something more to do this season. As for whether or not the other resident human, Jeremy Gilbert, will be joining in the fun, Plec also shared that, for him, “Being told by your girlfriend over the phone that she’s not going to make it through the night when she’s been lying to you all along, that’s hardcore emotional stuff to deal with. He’s not going to take it very well.” She went on to say that he won’t be left out of the fun entirely, but that they are just going to have to figure out how to see Jeremy through this extremely rough set of circumstances before he can jump back into solving other people’s problems.

Hopefully we will have oodles of great news next week at Comic Con 2014, so make sure to check back and see what we learn from the cast and producers!
