Check out the first official promo for The Vampire Diaries season 5, which features brand new footage – including a surprising new romance!
The CW has finally released the first promo for The Vampire Diaries season 5 which gives us a proper look at what we can expect for the premiere episode, “I Know What You Did Last Summer.”

We get a small recap of what happened last year, specifically how Silas (Paul Wesley) trapped Stefan (Paul Wesley) at the bottom of a lake and assumed his identity.
Now, it seems like one of Silas’ new objectives is to seduce another doppelganger, this one of the Petrova variety.
Silas and Katherine (Nina Dobrev)? There’s a constellation we hadn’t considered before! But seeing as how Katherine is now human and more emotionally (and physically) vulnerable, we’re guessing it’s going to be harder for her to hide her feelings for Stefan.
In the promo, we see Katherine in the bath, with Silas telling her that, “Being human looks better on you than I ever thought it could.”
What do you think his ulterior motive is for getting Katherine on his side? Or is he perhaps really just looking for love?
Meanwhile Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena (Nina Dobrev… wait, are there other actors on this show?) exchange “I love you”s, and it seems all is good on the SS Delena – for now.

Damon also quips that with all the doppelgangers they have to deal with, he’ll soon have to learn how to spell the word. We feel you, Damon!

The Vampire Diaries season 5 premieres Thursday, October 3 at 8/7c on The CW. It’ll be followed by the new pilot episode of The Originals, which will otherwise air Tuesday nights at 8/7c.
