As we prepare for the season finale tomorrow night, we thought it would be fun to take a look back at the season as a whole and were surprised at how much we had already forgotten!

Every season of The Vampire Diaries seems to move past at quite a pace, but the storylines in season 5 have moved so far from where we started, we were beginning to forget about the witty quips from Silas and the epic love monologues from Tessa. Luckily, fans have amassed quite the collection of gifs and that gave us a chance to jog our memories.

Check out a few of our favorite moments from The Vampire Diaries season 5, and leave us your favorites in the comments below!

Damon freaks out over Jeremy’s (almost) death

(Talk about character growth!)

Seriously though, think about how far Damon has come in such a short time. Just last season, Damon would be the first person in line to throw Jeremy off a bridge or sacrifice Bonnie for a chance at his own survival, but in the season 5 premiere he loses his mind over Jeremy’s limp body. Bravo Damon. Bravo.

Katherine gets a cold

So, yeah, this is just one of those things that will NEVER stop being funny. Invincible Katherine, who has successfully survived being hunted by Klaus for more than 500 years, gets a cold in her first couple weeks of being human. While we feel badly for her (colds really do suck), we can’t help but laugh a bit as a formerly VERY powerful supernatural suffers from a stuffy nose.

Bonnie’s Funeral

We’ve had more than enough tears in seasons 1-4, but Bonnie’s funeral scene in “For Whom the Bell Tolls” was above and beyond the saddest memorial this show has ever done. While Bonnie looks on from the other side and speaks to her friends through Jeremy, we openly weep buckets of tears. Each of her friends brings something forward to connect to their time with Bonnie, a pom, a whistle, white feathers, and we just can’t stop the tears from flowing.

Silas monologues to a couple of complete strangers

Oh Silas. We almost forgot about your unique ability to mock our favorite characters and yet still have us laughing right along with you. Silas had a lot of great scenes, but most memorable would have to be this one at the bus stop in episode 7 “Death and the Maiden.” It’s hard to not love a good villain monologue, and this one is one for the record books.

Caroline and Tyler call it quits

Via: tumblr

Whether you enjoyed Tyler and Caroline’s relationship or not, its ending was one of the most dramatic moments of The Vampire Diaries season 5. While they had been drifting apart for quite some time, our hearts still broke as Caroline warned him, “If you take just one more step…” It was probably for the best, but it doesn’t make it any easier on our hearts.

Three Doppelgangers in one room

The logistics of shooting this scene had to have been a royal nightmare for the cast and crew, but Nina Dobrev blew us away as she played 3 different doppelgangers in one scene. Amara, Katherine, and Elena all have distinguishing characteristics, but to be able to make those clear as day while interacting with yourself on screen sounds about just as hard as her job can get. This will definitely make her career highlight reel.

Caroline and Klaus have scandalous sex in the woods

So, we’ve all been waiting for this moment since Klaus gave her that horse sketch back in season 4. Shippers hearts skipped a beat or two as these two gave in to their desires for a seriously hot romp in the woods. While they must now endure a lengthy separation, we will always hold on to the hope that someday they will find their way back to each other again.

Rebekah saves Matt

While Caroline was off getting busy with Klaus, Rebekah also made a return to Mystic Falls, but her and Matt’s interaction was a bit more wholesome. After seeing these two getting hot and heavy at the end of their summer of fun, we welcome any and all interaction between them. Thank goodness Rebekah was around to save him this time, and we hope she will never miss a chance like that again.

Katherine’s “Death”

The Vampire Diaries season 5 will perhaps always be best known as the season we said good-bye to Katerina Petrova. Katherine has been wreaking havoc on Elena and her friends since the very beginning, and while we hate to see her go, you can only evade death for so long. Katherine finally ran out of tricks in “Gone Girl” and was swept off into oblivion.

Stefan’s Death

The most recent (and the most hurtful) moment of season 5 was DEFINITELY Stefan’s death. No one saw it coming. No one knows where it will take us. Is Stefan gone for good? We cannot believe that this seriously happened in “Promised Land” nor do we accept that there’s no way to bring him back. We will be crossing all our fingers as we watch the season 5 finale tomorrow night and hope that Bonnie can once again work a witchy miracle.
