In The Vampire Diaries season 5, Tyler returns to Mystic Falls. But now that Caroline is off to college, what will his role be? Michael Trevino weighs in.

After Tyler’s failed plot to kill Klaus (Joseph Morgan), the character fled town, and was absent for most of The Vampire Diaries season 4.

But in the season 4 finale, Caroline (Candice Accola) convinced Klaus to allow Tyler to return – and now that Klaus is off to star on The Originals, the town is safe for him once again.

But will he and Caroline be able to pick up where they left off? The CW has released this video interview with actor Michael Trevino, where he teases what we can expect from him in season 5:

“Hopefully it’s not too long since we see good old Tyler back in Mystic Falls,” Trevino says, indicating that perhaps he won’t return straight away (despite the time jump in the first episode).

He also talks about his favourite scenes in season 4, which were when Klaus was possessing Tyler’s body.

It seems that, like Paul Wesley (Stefan), Michael Trevino prefers playing an edgier role!

The Vampire Diaries exec Julie Plec recently commented on the future of the Caroline/Tyler relationship, saying that the pair is still very intent on making it work.

However, with rumours of Caroline getting a new love interest, and the lingering promise of an eventual Klaus/Caroline development, we can’t see this couple having a smooth road ahead.

Do you hope to see Forwood happy together in season 5?

The Vampire Diaries season 5 premieres Thursday, October 3 at 8/7c on The CW.
