The Vampire Diaries season 5, episode 7, “Death and the Maiden” airs tonight at 8 p.m. EST on the CW! Check out the synopsis and the promo and find out where you can watch online.

Last week, we met Amara, the original doppelganger, if you will, and learned that she is the key to everything, pretty much. Qetsiyah used Amara to anchor the Other Side so that Silas would find it impossible to destroy her, and therefore keep him from his planned eternal reunion with his one true love. The end of the episode showed Amara drinking the cure from Silas’ neck and now she is mortal. The Mystic Falls Scooby gang must now keep her alive until Silas arrives to bring Bonnie back from the dead. No big deal, right?

The official synopsis for ‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5, episode 7, ‘Death and the Maiden’ is:

THE POWER OF DOPPLEGANGERS – While Elena and Damon try to explain Amara’s situation to Stefan, Dr. Wes (guest star Rick Cosnett) gives Katherine some deeply disturbing news. Nadia (guest star Olga Fonda) shows up at Caroline’s dorm room, searching for Katherine. After a surprising conversation with Amara, Jeremy and Bonnie share a glimmer of hope. Silas fails to keep a promise, causing Damon to turn to Tessa (guest star Janina Gavankar) for help with his new plan, and Stefan makes a heartbreaking confession to Damon and Elena.
