Will tonight be the night we see our Mystic Falls scooby gang figure out why Elena isn’t quite herself? We can only hope. Check out all the goodies you need to get excited about The Vampire Diaries season 5, episode 13, “Total Eclipse of the Heart.”

After the crazy twist in last week’s episode, we are all ready to see how our favorite characters react to the Elena/Katherine body situation. Hopefully someone figures it out this week, but you can never be too sure. In the synopsis, it mentions that Stefan makes a “disturbing discovery,” and we can only hope that the Katherine/Elena body swap is the discovery he makes. Only time will tell…

Last week on ‘The Vampire Diaries’

Caroline spent the episode scrubbing away at the grime in her life (literally and figuratively) and dealing with the fallout of her tryst with Klaus in the woods. Katherine, in Elena’s body, manipulated Caroline to admitting her hookup just as Tyler enters the room, eavesdropping as he goes.

Tyler doesn’t react well, ultimately screaming at her and throwing things at her. Stefan intervenes, and after not exactly being thrilled with the news, punches Tyler in the face and warns him that no matter what she did, she doesn’t deserve this treatment.

While Caroline was dealing with her situation, Katherine and Nadia were plotting to get rid of Elena for good with a few missing ingredients and some help from a fellow Traveler. Nadia recovered Katherine’s corpse after some stealthy investigating by Katherine, and they set up shop in the infamous tomb.

The Traveler friend conducts her spell, and while Elena returns in time to fight, she is ultimately over-taken by Katherine in the final moments. Katherine then breaks Damon’s heart as he gushes his love for Elena.

The episode ended with Enzo and Damon tag-teaming Aaron Whitmore’s death in a scene eerily reminiscent of season 2’s “The Descent”, as the scene began with a vampire laying in the road.

As we move on to tonight’s episode, here’s a little reminder of what to expect, and there are more than a few troublesome spots in this week’s synopsis.

The synopsis for ‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5, episode 13, ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’ is:

WELCOME TO THE BITTER BALL — Hoping to help everyone move past recent traumatic events, Caroline convinces Elena and Bonnie to attend Whitmore College’s “Bitter Ball” for broken-hearted students. Bonnie is intrigued with a fellow student named Liv (guest star Penelope Mitchell), who appears to be dabbling in witchcraft. Tyler (starts to worry about Matt’s relationship with Nadia. After making a disturbing discovery, Stefan has a frustrating conversation with Damon and Enzo. Dr. Wes struggles to continue his research project with help from a new benefactor named Sloan (guest star Caitlin McHugh). Still bent on revenge, Damon and Enzo resort to violence to convince Bonnie and Jeremy to help them, but their plan takes an unexpected and horrifying turn.
